Amman, May 19 (Petra) -- The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in partnership with the founding States of the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), announced that the High-Level Conference on Humanity in War will be convened in Jordan on Monday, 7 December 2026.
The High-Level Conference will bring together Heads of State and Government to stand united in sending a unified message reaffirming that the rules of war are fundamental to preserving our shared humanity.
The Conference comes as part of the Global Initiative launched in September 2024 by Brazil, China, France, Jordan, Kazakhstan and South Africa, in partnership with the ICRC, to strengthen political commitment to international humanitarian law and enhance the protection of civilians in armed conflicts.
The founding States encouraged all countries to participate in the Conference at the highest possible political level, reflecting the importance of collective international action to uphold humanity in times of war.
Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, said:
"The announcement of the date of the Humanity in War Conference by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan marks an important milestone for the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law. I thank His Majesty, along with the leaders of the other founding states — Brazil, China, France, Kazakhstan and South Africa — for their steadfast commitment.
That 111 states from every region of the world have now joined this initiative is a powerful signal: there is renewed political will to restore IHL as a priority at the highest level. The high-level conference will be a moment for world leaders to stand united behind the fundamental rules that preserve humanity in armed conflict. In an age of rising armed conflict and diminishing restraint and respect for the rules of war, that unity is urgently needed."
